Sacagawea is my name. In Shoshoni it means "boat puller." In Hidatsa, it is "bird woman." That is what the white man commonly translates my name to be. I was born the daughter of a "Shoshone chief." Now I live with in a small town in Idaho. I was engaged to a Frenchman, Charbonneau. He is not good looking and he is rather repulsive, but I accept it. So does the other wife. But this is as much of my background I would like to share. Most of what is to now be said is about my life in Idaho.
